Sam, a native of Sacramento, CA, is the founder of Deep Roots Foundation and has a passion for inspiring youth with a focused and goal driven mind-set to be the absolute best they can be. Our executive leadership team oversees all the foundation’s efforts. The committee meets regularly to ensure that all of our programs perform efficiently and to facilitate cross-functional connections.

Founder, Sam Dhillon 


Sam Singh Dhillon feels blessed to be achieving his ambitious dreams and goals at a young age. Sam is a native of Sacramento, CA, is the founder of Deep Roots Foundation and has a passion for inspiring youth with a focused and goal driven mind-set to be the absolute best they can be. His fundamental belief is that hard work is always rewarded and holds the key to success.

His leadership, civic engagement and academic focus began at a young age where in high school Sam Dhillon while attending Inderkum High School, Class of 2013 graduated as valedictorian – GPA of 4.5 and Associated Student Body President. While at Inderkum High School, as Captain of the Varsity Basketball Team, Sam led his team to the school’s first Tri County Conference (TCC) Championship.

Currently, he is one of the 1st Indian-Americans to play for a Power 5 NCAA Division 1 Basketball Team in the Pacific-12 Conference (Pac-12). Sam plays the position of Forward at the University of Southern California (USC). As a Student-Athlete at USC, he has received several awards and recognition for his accomplishments. Sam is a 2-time recipient of the Dr. James Zumberge Award (Top GPA) and the Ernie Holbrook Award (Most Inspirational). He was selected as the Chevron STEM Spotlight Athlete for April 2015, for his Human Energy Story encompassing his academic pursuit of science, technology, engineering or math field (STEM) read Sam’s story here. His major is a B.S. in Human Biology with a Minor in Business Entrepreneurship and his goal is to pursue a career in medicine focused on neurosurgery. Sam’s academic honors include membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society and the Alpha Lambda Delta-National College Honor Scholarship Society.

While a Freshman at USC with a keen interest in finance, Sam passed the Series 65 exam in July of 2014 to become a registered investment advisor, founded his own company and is CEO of Quest Investment Firm. The company manages investment portfolios and retirement accounts for clients by creating strategic investments in stocks, bonds, mutual funds and ETFs.

Sam Dhillon is also the co-founder of the 1st Mobile Health Clinic in USC’s 135 year history. The USC Mobile Health Clinic is slated to be launched in Fall of 2015 and provides medical services to the homeless and underserved populations within the Greater Los Angeles Region. One night a week, we will operate the clinic with undergraduate students, medical students and public health students in a collaborative effort to bring healthcare to this segment of the population. This innovative Mobile Health Clinic provides undergraduates the opportunity to shadow medical professionals and interact with patients of the surrounding USC community. Doctors and medical professionals from The Keck School of Medicine of USC will provide medical services to the community including free health screenings, diagnosis and preventative health techniques.

Sam Dhillon has a passion for creating opportunities which positively impact the lives of youth and inspire community collaborations. 

Chief Operating Officer, 

Surjit Singh Dhillon

Surjit Singh Dhillon, Chief Operating Officer, manages all aspects of operational activities to drive the vision and mission of the Deep Roots Foundation. He serves on the Executive Management Committee of the Sikh Temple Sacramento and is a Founding Board Member of the Sacramento Valley Charter School in West Sacramento, CA. He is a small business owner as he owns several Shell Gasoline Dealerships in the Sacramento Area and serves vital roles on organizations like the Neighborhood Market Association, a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower independent retailers throughout the West Coast. With over twenty years of experience in the field of planning and development, Mr. Surjit Dhillon has extensive experience managing large scale community projects. His expertise lies in collaborating on complex multi-year/multi-tiered projects while managing strict project deadlines. He also brings over ten years of experience in the Information Technology sector where he worked for Schlumberger, the world's leading supplier of technology, integrated project management, and information solutions to customers working in the oil and gas industries. 

Chief Financial Officer,

Balbir Singh Dhillon

Balbir Singh Dhillon, Chief Financial Officer, oversees finance and accounting, financial planning and analysis, strategic planning, grants and contracts management, and several special enterprises. He serves as the President of Executive Management Committee of the Sikh Temple Sacramento and owns several Shell Gasoline Dealerships in the Greater Sacramento Area. Mr. Balbir Dhillon has vast experience with large financial initiatives including multi-million dollar construction projects in the West Sacramento Region. He also spent fifteen years in various roles at Intel Corporation focused on leading teams to proven results.

Chief Communications Officer, 

Darshan Singh Mundy

Darshan Singh Mundy, Chief Communications Officer, leads relationship-building efforts for the foundation with community members and civic leaders. He is responsible for overseeing all communications and brand functions, including managing reputation risk and building media partnerships to support coverage of priority issues. He is a strong community advocate focused on promoting and supporting effective cross-sector solutions to complex issues and economic development. Mr. Darshan Mundy paves the path in his pioneering efforts to build strategic relationships with Mayors, Legislators, Senators, United States Congressional Members, and other key partners to increase awareness, action, and resources devoted to community development. He has built successful programs in underserved communities throughout the Sacramento Valley and has over 25 years of communications and public affairs experience. He serves as the Director of Public Relations for the Sikh Temple Sacramento, is a Founder of the Sacramento Valley Charter School in West Sacramento, CA, and is Founder of the Neighborhood Market Association protecting the rights of small business owners. Mr. Darshan Mundy is a marquee Chevron Gasoline Dealer in Sacramento and Davis where he owns over ten dealerships

Chief Development Officer, 

Amarjit Singh Dhillon

Amarjit Singh Dhillon, Chief Development Officer, leads the foundation’s program development efforts and is focused on increasing awareness and engagement for priority community, athletic, and educational issues. Mr. Amarjit Dhillon drives sustainability programs and business strategy priorities. He serves as Financial Auditor on the Executive Management Committee for Sikh Temple Sacramento and owns several Shell Gasoline Dealerships in the Sacramento Area. Mr. Amarjit Dhillon is a successful entrepreneur and provides venture capital investment to start-up companies in the food and entertainment industries.
